Fishing Fishing Book Reviews THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO FLY FISHING by Clive Schaupmeyer This book makes the most perfect gift to the fly fisher in your family. It was a gift to me from my husband who well understands how much I truely love fly fishing. This book really covers all aspects of fly fishing from the initial selection of rods, reels, lines and other gear, the understanding of insects & fly patterns, casting & controlling line and the observing & understanding of fish & their habitat. Mr. Clive Schaupmeyer is proudly Canadian. The author has a very simplistic approach to imparting information to his readers. It is both imformative, easily read and understood. I highly recommend this book. WONDERFUL BOOKS TO BE READ BY THE RENOWNED AUTHOR Dr. George Frederick Clarke Born in Woodstock, N.B. December 29,1883, Dr. Clarke has written some 13 books. They will fill the void during those long winter months when the rivers are frozen tight. There are many lively campfire tales that fishermen enjoy. His many campfire tales such as Bill's account of Angus Bruce's epic battle with the bear at Moose Lake or his problems with his alcoholic cow, Bessie. In The Song of the Reel (a must read) one will find action-filled sentences: "The salmon ran into the strong current; the reel hummed. Seventy-five yards out the fish leaped into the air, fell back in shower of spray and tore off another twenty or thirty yards of line, rose again, turned a somersault; then, as the reel gears screeched, it ran upstream with the speed of a thunderbolt, taking off more than half the backing. It was, I thought, a twenty-five pounder or better." Or passages such as this: "Night settled over the valley. The sky was thick with stars; the moon swung over Brighton hills and was reflected in the fast-flowing river. The air, as always in early June, was cool. Russel piled more drift wood on the fire. Occasionally a shower of sparks shot upwards and winked out." He certainly has the gift to reflect the feelings all fisherman experience when out on the river. I was introduce to this author by my good friend Margaret at 62 Sports. For this I will be eternally grateful. |
